The Legacy: The absolute starting line for pizza in downtown Lake Orion. Long before Broadway filled up with modern boutiques and trendy eateries, Art's was the reliable anchor of the downtown strip.
The Vibe: Old-school, unpretentious, and classic. Getting a pizza meant walking down to Broadway, catching up with neighbors at the counter, and carrying a piping hot, brown-paper-bagged box back to the car. For many longtime locals, this was the very first place they ever tasted a real, independent hometown slice.
The Legacy: Run with immense pride by the Lucarelli family, Donelli's was a massive landmark on Lapeer Road — a classic mid-to-late 20th-century Italian-American aesthetic, complete with a motel out front and a dimly lit, cozy lounge attached.
The Food: Beyond their massive plates of pasta and ribs, Donelli's turned out incredible, authentic brick-oven style Italian thin-crust pizzas. The spot for a sit-down family dinner or a date night in a room with real local character.
The Legacy: Opened in the mid-1970s, "The O-House" was the ultimate family gathering destination. It transitioned into Christi's Bar & Grill in 2005 and closed in 2016 — but its place in local lore is entirely secure.
